5 Days tour

Escape to the South of Tunisia is a 5-day vacation and holiday package that will take you from Tunis -the capital of Tunisia- down to the city of Sousse on your way to the Saharan desert via Tozeur, Chott El Jerid, the city of Douz, Ksar Ghilene, the desert troglodyte village of Matmata and through Djerba. This extensive package tour will make for a unique adventure holiday that can be adapted with additional components and excursions to fit with visitors’ needs for adventure and history. We can select accommodation based on individual needs from luxurious hotels to traditional Tunisian bed and breakfast, picking traditional Tunisian restaurants along your journey’s route across the country.

1st day : Carthage - Sidi Bou Said - Tozeur :
Upon arrival at Tunis airport the guide will meet you in the airport lobby. The first stop on your journey through Tunisia takes you to the city of Sidi Bou Said. The intense colors of Sidi Bou Said will charm visitors of all kinds, making this a special photo opportunity and a relaxing first step in the tour following your arrival in Tunisia. The following step in the tour brings you to the ancient city of Carthage perfect for sightseeing and picture taking. A local restaurant will be reserved and arranged at the end of the first day of visit before heading back to the airport for a local flight in the evening. Transfers and travel support is provided for the smoothest of flights towards your next Tunisian destination, the city of Tozeur. Arriving in Tozeur you will meet with our car and driver, the transfer will take you to the hotel before the next day’s visit of the Tozeur Oasis.

2nd day: Tozeur – Chott El Jerid – Douz
After a restful night in your hotel, a hearty breakfast is recommended; it is time for some sightseeing in the nearby desert town of Tozeur. On this second day of your vacation, you are nearing the Saharan desert. Visits today will include the Dar Cherait museum, depicting scenes of the traditional Tunisian lifestyle followed by a visit of the picturesque desert oasis of Tozeur. Lunch is waiting at a local Tunisian restaurant before a visit to the salt flats of Chott El Jerid. The salt flats and barren lands are a mystical sight to behold and are located only 45mn outside of Tozeur. Just a few kilometers farther away from Tozeur, you will discover the first palm tree fields and then you will reach the Sahara desert as the palm trees give way to the sand dunes. In this part of the tour, optional camel rides in the Sahara desert are made available. Towards the end of the day, the guide and visitors’ party will head back to the hotel for dinner and some deserved relaxation before the next day’s departure to Pansea camp and Matmata.

3rd day : Douz – Ksar Ghilane - Matmata
The adventure tour continues after an early morning departure from Douz on your way to the sandy dunes of the Saharan desert. The exploration of the desert in your 4WD vehicle will take you to Pansea camp, where visitors will have lunch. The second half of the day will take you to the troglodyte city of Matmata. This is perhaps one of the most special stops in the Tunisian tour. This unique site includes the troglodyte homes dug directly into the stone ground. As they were used as set for scenes from the original Star Wars movies, you will recognize these ancient mystical structures.

4th day: Matmata – Jerba – Tunis
After breakfast and hotel check-out, the tour brings you to the magnificent island of Jerba. But first along the way our guide has a planned stop in the famous village of Guellala. This is a famous Tunisian town, home of traditional ceramics and potteries. These special potteries use clay from nearby hills and purified sea water. We can add excursions in this step of the package tour for visitors wanting to try their hand at making their own potteries and discovering the traditional decorative arts. Finally, a stop at the Ghriba Synagogue, before lunch in a local Tunisian restaurant. Then will take you back by plane to Tunis, where transfers are ready to take you to your hotel; booking arrangements have all been confirmed for a smooth check-in.

5th and last day
On your final day in Tunisia, key sites and a bit of sightseeing in Tunis city will take you to the Bardo Museum, which is the most famous museum in Tunisia. It is the home of the most beautiful collection of ancient Roman Mosaics in the world, gathered from archaeological sites around Tunisia. If time allows it, additional excursions or visits can be arranged in Tunis. Finally our local transfer arrangement will take you back to Tunis-Carthage airport for your flight back home.
