The ancient site lies in the broad plain of the River (Oued) Medjerda, the only permanently flowing river in Tunisia. Utica predated Carthage as the first Phoenician trading post on this coast. It is now landlocked 10km from the sea due to the river silting up the coast.
Museum
The museum houses a collection of various objects found on the site along with a few mosaics outside.
House of the Cascade
The House of Cascade is named after fountains which used to decorate this mansion and holds the site’s best mosaics. A lovely little mosaic depicting men fishing from boats with nets and rods is protected from the elements in wooden boxes whose covers can be lifted.
Utica
In the Northern part of Tunisia is an archaeological marvel. At the crossroads of historical influences, this Phoenician City survived the Punic war, Mercenary wars and the Roman civil war.
