Weekly market – camel
Most of the week, Douz is a sleepy spot but it comes radically alive with the Thursday market with livestock as the principal merchandise. Hoping to take home a camel or goat as a souvenir of your travels to Tunisia? You had better brush up on your negotiating skills; The merchants are professionals and have haggling in their blood. As much as your youngest child might plead with you for a new family pet with a bump, bear in mind that camels weigh up to 600 kilograms, live more than 20 years and can drink up to 150 liters of water in ten minutes.
