Quiet town of Kelibia, Tunisia
The coastal city of Kelibia has several charming spots in both old and modern parts of the city. This is definitely a place of peace and tranquility, and visitors will be hard pressed to find any nightlife here. The beach is long and clean and seldom visited by foreigners. Not many visitors to Tunisia add Kelibia as visit during their vacation, yet towering 150 meters over sea level lies Kelibia’s ancient fort.
Visit Kelibia’s Fort
Kelibia’s main attraction is its enormous fort overlooking the harbor. It seems that each and every conquering group to march through Tunisia altered this fort to suit its particular needs. The Carthaginian foundations are still visible like feet peeking out from under the Byzantine ‘dress’ that comprises the greatest part of the current fort. The Spanish occupied the fort in the 16th century and even the Germans left their mark in the form of gun emplacements from the World War II. It is these slot-like openings for guns that provide the best view for anyone too short to crane their neck over the 8 foot walls.
